A sprinkler, sittin' on a watermelon, and I'm farming and I grow it!

Skyler is still fascinated by the sprinkler.

We went to the grocery yesterday.  Skyler picked out a watermelon so he could have some like he did with Grandpa this week.  Once it was home, it was a perfect size to sit on!

And finally, there's a group named LMFAO that does "I'm sexy and I know it."  It's kind of a catchy beat and tune but this version is much better!
The brothers all did of the singing and editing.  It has received 2 million hits in a week.  Thank God for farmers!

Friday random photos.

Not much going on here, Altair is still working Fridays and Skyler and I hang out in the house away from the ridiculous heat.  Here's some pictures of the garden and yard.
Great clouds again yesterday.  Too bad there's not any rain in them.

Sweet corn.  It's about a month behind.  I re-planted the bare spots where the planter skipped.

The hops are filling in nicely.

It's amazing to me that I'm the only one with a green lawn in the neighborhood.  I mow it at 4" and only water early in the mornings.

The day lillies are starting to bloom.

Skyler tasting his Crocs! Mmm.  This was coming in from changing water in the garden.

A red sunflower.

A sunset sunflower.

Looking across the potatoes toward the tomatoes.

A yellow sunflower.  I try to spray the or pull the sunflowers, but they are Altair's favorite flower  and I end up just leaving them alone for her.

The "I" beam terror.

I guess I'm from the Sesame Street generation.  Sesame Street is 39 years old and I'll be 36 in a couple of months.  My little sister and I would watch Sesame Street almost every day and I think it's one of the reasons that both of us turned out so well.  (Lots of great parenting too, thanks Mom and Dad).  I remember a few segments and skits on Sesame Street and more now that Skyler will watch a few minutes at a time, but this one has to be one of the most terrifying as a kid that I can remember.
Even the music is terrifying!  What were they thinking?  Looking at all the comments on YouTube, it looks like I wasn't the only kid that was scared.  Now it's time to go for a walk before we watch Sesame Street at 11:00.  I'll comfort Skyler if the I beam comes on... :)

Being adorable.

After yesterday, things could only improve. He was so fussy! Thankfully, today is starting out much better.

Sittin' on the tractor.

I was moving a couple of tractors yesterday and Altair brought Skyler out to see.  He had to climb up and sit on one.  He grabs the steering wheel and moves it back and forth.  Such a lucky boy!

Also, I've found an excellent Ag blog: thefarmerslife  It's about a guy that farms with JD equipment and has a 2 year old son.  He really does an excellent job of covering everything related to farm life.

Someone get the door!

Skyler and one of his favorite toys.  Notice how he's bouncing to the bell!

Raspberries and a family swim?

We picked raspberries for the first time yesterday.  It's amazing how many berries a few plants can produce.
Results of just 15 minutes of picking.

These plants are almost 8 years old and still producing.

We'll probably have to pick again in a couple of days.
After the successful picking, Skyler went for a swim.  Then came Altair.  Then came Maizey!
Maizey was after Skyler's balloon.

"Why not add the dog toy too?  She swims with me!"

Must. Have. Balloon!

Ahhh...

Altair is off today. Skyler is napping. Time to relax in the sun on the patio with a Drumstick ice cream!

Holy cow! I can remember that!

I browse and post to a few garden tractor and tractor forums.  Today while browsing I ran into this:
It's currently on permanent display in The Hall at Patriots Place.
It's the John Deere 314 from the 1982 New England Patriots football game.  Story here  I can remember my Dad calling me in to see the John Deere on the football field when I was 6.  Not sure what Dad was doing watching football but it stuck with me ever since!  Pretty cool that they kept it and display it.  Also, isn't it ironic that I now have the same setup in my garage.  Only 30 years newer!  As you can see, I've had a tractor obsession for a while... :)
A photo from the game.
My tractor(s).

A day out.

Yesterday, my parents and I went to Kennecott to show Skyler some of the big trucks.  Kennecott Utah Copper, is the world's largest open pit copper mine.  It's mind boggling to see.  I hadn't been there in about 5 years and I could tell the pit was significantly deeper.
This is how we started the afternoon.

The view to the bottom.

A Komatsu 390E climbing with a load.  The mine has recently switched over to Komatsu trucks instead of Caterpillar trucks.

Grandma showed him the viewing apparatus.
The shops for maintaining the mine's equipment.

Looking over the railing.

"This is awesome!"

Hard to see, but the shorter building is the parts department for all the different makes of equipment.

All the different service trucks.

"I can touch it, Dad!"

Look at that tire!

Some tire info.

This was displayed in the visitor center.  I had one just like it as a kid.  I literally wore  it out to oblivion.  Now I'm looking for another, anyone know where to find one?

One of the big electric shovel's teeth.
After the mine, we went to the Copperton park and Skyler played.
After mamma got home, we had dinner and headed out to the Great Salt Lake for summer solstice sunset.

More Kennecott!  It was not meant to be an entire day of mine tour.

Looking tired.  He fell asleep on the way back home.

The lake was really low.  And super smelly!
