Mini-marathon at school.

Saturday was the 10th annual mini-marathon at Skyler's school.  He wasn't too thrilled to run, but the rest of the day he had a great time.

Mommy trying to get him to warm up.  He wasn't happy.

Not having any of it.

After the run, much happier!

Petting zoo.

Mini goat.

Sheep.

Pig.

The pig was rooting in the wood chips.

Drum circle.

This turned out much better and more fun than I had originally thought.

The drum leader was really good.

Skyler was really into the drums.

And the washboard!

Artemis was next to him, she wasn't having as much fun.

Artemis started tagging the school with her water sprayer.

She spelled out her name.  :)

The others at the mini-marathon loved it!

Finally!

Lego Ideas announced early last year that they were going to produce the fan designed Lego Saturn V rocket kit.  I nearly fell out of my chair  when I read that.  Fast forward to this Spring and Lego announced the release date for the kit to be June 1st.  I was on their website May 31st at 10:00pm local time and managed to snag two sets!  One set for building, one will be an investment for later.  The sets arrived Wednesday evening after Skyler's school performance.  We started building Thursday afternoon after his last day of school.  The plan is to do one bag (there's 12 bags) of assembly a day.  So far, we're right on track and finished bag 2 yesterday afternoon.  The level of engineering and complexity of this kit is astounding, 1969 pieces (remember the US put men on the moon in 1969) and the finished model will be one meter (39inches(!)) tall!

Wednesday night right after we opened the shipping box.

Closeup.

We decided to build downstairs in the cool basement since it's plenty hot around here lately.  This also keeps the temptation of building down a bit.

Skyler is doing great even though this kit is for ages 14+.
Bag 1 nearly complete.

Time for bed, pose for a picture.

End of bag 2.  It's starting to look like a Saturn V!

Last day!

Of school!!!  Mommy and I joined Skyler's class to watch the awards ceremony yesterday.  It was a little bittersweet, happy that he enjoyed kindergarten so much, sad that he will be going on to first grade in August.  I'm astounded how much he enjoys his wonderful school.

Getting his "mentos" award.

"For the one who excelled at mentoring fellow students."

The entire elementary class body in classroom 7 joined together for their awards.

The poppy post.

Our poppies are amazing this year!  I don't remember there ever being so many or them being so bright.

WOW!

I hope the heat wave we're currently experiencing doesn't cut the blooms short.

Sunday morning nature walk along the Parkway.

We headed out early before the heat set on Sunday morning.  It was still hot towards the end, but everyone got some much needed fresh air and exercise.

Lazy river.
Skyler found an impromptu bench.

Phragmites single track trail.

Great early morning light.

Poppies along the boardwalk.

Grassy meadow.

Musk thistle!!  Grr!  They sure are pretty though...

Saturday afternoon project.

We debated over buying new patio chairs or simply painting the existing chairs we already had.  We chose the latter after visiting Home Depot's spay paint aisle.  We went with some vivid and bright retro-modern colors.  They turned out stellar!

Starting out.

The existing color was faded and beginning to crack.

Two down, two to go!
The pink really picked up the pink Jupiter's Beard flowers.

Done!  Talk about retro-modern!

Sunday, we headed to Lowe's to get some new cushions.  I think we saved about $500 versus buying an all new set.  :)

Saturday night fire.

It's way too hot to have a normal patio fire here, so Skyler made us his version of a "fire".

He got the paper and cut everything out all by himself.

He even added a roasting log and "tended" the fire.  :)

A day with Artemis, last soccer game, and some McDonald's.

Artemis came over first thing yesterday to play with Skyler.  She also got to go to his last soccer game of the season and after the game, everyone went to McDonald's for some lunch.

Bruce Wayne aka Batman wandering around the driveway waiting for Artemis to arrive.

Waiting on the sidewalk.

Drawing with chalk on the patio.

At the soccer game.  She's putting on her sunscreen.  I wish Skyler was this good about using sunscreen.

Mommy coaching the team.  Otto is next to Skyler.

Skyler on the soccer field.  It was right after this that he took a direct hit from the ball to his face!

She got a little too much sunscreen on her face!  She looked like a ghost!

Everyone's a winner!  Each player got a nice participation medal.

At McDonald's after the game.  I asked Artemis if it was OK for her to eat at McDonald's, she said she goes there all the time.  Wrong!  I later found out from her Mom that this was only the 3rd time she's ever been!  I felt terrible.

Enjoying Happy Meals.  They were definitely happy after lunch!

Last guitar lesson.

Skyler actually had a pretty good experience taking guitar lessons this past month.  He was really excited to go to his last lesson last night.

Waiting for Mommy to get home.  At one point he was out in the garage holding his guitar and sheet music.

In Mommy's car and ready to go!

Chicks at school.

Skyler's school hatched out some baby chickens in an incubator again this year.  They finally hatched on Sunday.  Lucky for Skyler, he has some special access thanks to Ms. Jasmin.

Waiting for the baby chicks.  It's funny how they both kneel on the floor in the same manner.

Being so gentle.

Skyler was thrilled!  Artemis was pretty happy too.
