Top Gun Maverick.

It was SO good!

It was really nice to be back in an actual movie theater.

Friday, May 27, 2022

2.5 year wait.

We're going to see "Top Gun Maverick" this afternoon!  I cannot believe how excited we all are to see a movie in a theater again.  This clip made us all laugh the other night.  Enjoy!

Los Alamos 1944.

For some reason this photo reminds me of myself and my sister as kids.

Look at that bike!
Imagine, your parents (most likely your father) get orders to pack up everything and move to New Mexico out of the blue.  When you try to ask why, he cannot answer citing National Security.

No more.

19 4th grade kids and 2 adults this time.

This has to stop.

I shouldn't have to worry about Skyler being shot when I drop him off at school.  Nor should any parent, ever.

Tractor time.

Skyler and I spent Sunday afternoon trying to install my new (to me) hydraulic tiller.  No go.  It supposedly came off of a 425 just like mine but the pump mounting bracket was too wide no matter how we tried to align it to the frame.  He sure is a good helper!

Hours of aggravation!

The look of disappointment.  I'm going to try the tiller on a different tractor.

Some pics taken in the air by Skyler.

Man, he really got some good frame grabs from the GoPro!

Left waist blister view.  Our shadow!

Just like in 1945.

Climbing and banking to the north.  Potash evaporation ponds below.

One last shadow before we leveled off and headed west to Nevada.

It's a ghost train!

Nobody is in the cab!

The engineer was riding on the caboose using a remote control box.

Painted Lady butterfly release.

Skyler's friend next door gave him some Painted Lady butterfly larvae for his birthday.  They all made it and he released them into the wild last week.

The first butterfly was released right before Ninja class last week.

Pretty cool.

Right to a flowering Bleeding Heart plant.

Final 2 pics.

Both re-creating the look of WWII at Wendover Airfield.

In the original B-29 Enola Gay hangar the morning of our flight!
(Photo is courtesy of Doc's friends posted to Facebook.)

Right where pilot Dan killed the magnetos on the flight line!  Imagine rows of B-29s!

A few more pics of Doc.

A little hard to believe we just flew in this and were looking out of the side bubbles.

2,200 horsepower Wright 3350 engine.  55 liters of displacement!

16 foot 8 inch diameter propellers!

Electrically actuated main landing gear.

Exhaust.  Skyler said he could put his whole head in the pipe!  Smaller pipe is the turbo waste gate exit.

Flight engineers panel.  Looks as if it rolled off the line yesterday.

Throttles

Center console.

Nose art painted by a sign painter who painted in WWII.  He's still alive at age 103!

Under the horizontal stabilizer.  Look at that shine.

Restored bombay.  Incredible!

Crew passage way tube.  Skyler crawled through it.

Pilot Dan pulled it right up to the fence on the flight line.

More from Wednesday.

Oh my god!

#3 engine.

One guy polishes the plane 6 feet at a time they told us.

We crawled to the tail gunner position.

The view was incredible.

Perfectly restored gunsight.

Remarkable.

Looking forward to the starboard engines.

View form the waist bubble looking back.

I took a screen shot of our flight track midair.

Skyler on his first airplane ride ever.  Not sure he will ever forget this day.

Wow!

The sound of a B-29 with 8,800 horsepower in the air!

The ride a lifetime on a Boeing B-29!

At Historic Wendover Airfield where they trained crews on the B-29 for the atomic missions nonetheless!

All us lined up before our flight.

Skyler had LH gunner seat 1.

Looking excited.

In the air!

He had a GoPro and did an amazing job filming the entire flight.

Back on the ground.

Sitting at the controls.

Lots-o-snacks.

Homemade dog in a blankets.  Chickpeas roasted for veggie Gyros.

The kids enjoying a game of "Dog".
