Buddy dog!!

So the entire drive out to Nebraska last week Skyler would ask "See Buddy dog?"  It was his incentive to be a good little boy and he was.  Buddy dog is the farm dog and he's now a little over a year old.  Buddy was fascinated by Skyler.  We weren't sure if it was Skyler's mini human size or if Buddy thought Skyler was a loose sheep.  Either way, Buddy was always along side Skyler whether in the house or outside.
On the hunt!

His markings make him look like he's constantly asking "What?"

Note the concentration on Buddy as Skyler checks out the JD 3975 forage harvester.

"Here comes Niner!"

We escaped from the birthday celebration in Waco last Saturday to go watch trains and play on the playground.  Here's Skyler on the merry-go-round.

"Oh you know, just letting a 2 year old play Keno in a bar."

The primary objective of our trip out to Nebraska was to celebrate my Grandpa's 88th birthday.  In a bar.  Yep, we had a party in the local bar in the town of 226 people. "Hunter's Lounge and Keno" is the name of said bar.  Skyler thought the Keno crayon was pretty cool.  Here he is using the backside of a Keno card to draw and color on.  So many things were so wrong about this whole situation...
Please don't alert the authorities about him being in a bar.  Sadly, he wasn't the only kid in the bar!

On another note, I want to thank my father for taking care of the house and animals while we were gone on our trip.  I owe you big time Dad, however I feel that you were the one that came out on top of this trip, you didn't have to go!! :)

And finally today, I've decided to monitor the traffic on this blog for an indeterminate amount of time for now.  I have numerous relatives that read it in the Midwest and feel that they would lose access if I privatized the blog.  Stay tuned.

Playing in the autumn leaves.

We're on our way back home to Utah today.  At least Skyler had a good time on our trip out to Nebraska...

We made it!

We are at the farm in Nebraska.  Skyler was a perfect traveller all 14 hours in the car yesterday.  We even managed to stop in Cheyenne to see Big Boy #4004.  Here is Skyler showing us the locomotive.

Big dinosaur!

We're at Little America Wyoming on our way to Nebraska today.  Skyler is enjoying the drive so far.

Just like his daddy.

Reading Tractorhouse magazine and farming the floor.  (I remember looking at farm magazines and farm equipment brochures long before I could read too.)

Security concerns.

I've noticed some unusual traffic sources on this blog lately.  I don't really want every wacko in the world looking into or at my life or kid.  So, a week from tomorrow (Oct. 29th), I will be setting this blog to private.  I pretty much know who reads it every day, but, if you want access to the blog, I will have to add you.  Leave me a comment below if you would like to continue to read the crazy ramblings of a stay at home father or to be updated on what Skyler is up to.  I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone in Russia or Australia.  Two of many suspect traffic sources I've seen lately...

Peek-a-boo!

From the hay bale maze at Wheeler Farm yesterday.  I told you it was a farm week. :)

A farm themed day.

Or even the kickoff to a farm themed week!  Skyler got a new JD stroller to take on our trip to the family farm in Nebraska this week.  We went for a walk along the Jordan River Parkway yesterday to try it out.

After the walk, Skyler and I headed over to Ken's farm to feed some corn we grew here to the piglets.  The piglets have doubled in size in the last 3 weeks!  Skyler really loves to go to Ken's farm and usually asks "see Kenny?"  multiple times a week.  :)
"Piggies!"

He was rather pleased to feed them some corn.
After the pigs, we had to go see where Ken had done some test plowing to adjust his newly built (by him from multiple other plows) 3 bottom plow.

The biggest sandbox ever!

Holding clods of dirt.

Hard to see from the shitty Blogger photo resizer, Skyler is in the plow furrow in the middle of the field.

Come back Skyler!
As if all that wasn't enough, he got to see Grandma & Grandpa for an hour or so too.  Thinking he would need a nap after all of the day's activities, we headed home to watch "Hometime" on PBS and to munch on some delicious popcorn.  Nope, he never did fall asleep!  Out we headed to our garden to plow it under for the year. That is always a little bittersweet.  The garden is finished which is sad, but getting to use the moldboard plow is probably one of my favorite 60 minutes a year!

Before plowing.  Skyler is inspecting the recently buried irrigation spigot.  This allows MUCH easier maneuvering with tractors in the garden.

My cover crop test plot.  If I could have got everything planted sooner, I think it would have been a success.

Mid plowing, he wanted in on some dirt action too.

Almost done...

Finished.  Look how nice and straight the furrows are.  :)

The zoo.

As mentioned before, we made a trip up to the zoo yesterday so Skyler could see his friend Roan one more time before Roan heads back to North Carolina after spending the summer here.  The only problem?  It's UEA weekend here in Utah.  That means every school age kid is out of school!  And they all decided to go to the zoo with us!  It was pure pandemonium!  Children everywhere!  Skyler didn't seem to mind and just plowed his way around when he wanted to see an exhibit or animal.  Roan really loved riding in Skyler's John Deere wagon.  Skyler really loved riding in Roan's stroller.  Win win!
Skyler and Roan on the play elephant's trunk.

Both in the wagon.

Both climbing the polar bear sculpture.

Looking at the lemurs.

Towards the end.  Skyler looking tired in Roan's stroller.

Tractors, a wagon, and Buffalo chicken.

My Dad was gracious enough to watch Skyler (again) while I attempted to winterize the yard yesterday.  I got the frozen plants disked under with the tractor.  Now it's time to plow everything under.  That will be this weekend hopefully. :)
Post disking.  I have no way of taking my own picture while driving.

Skyler has been parking all of his tractors in a row at the back door lately.  I'm not sure where he saw this but it is adorable!

We're headed up to the zoo today.  I decided to take Skyler's wagon to the zoo for something different.  You can see how excited he is to ride in the wagon.
"Whee!"

I had just aired up the tires.  He decided to perform a random quality control check.

Look how long he is!

Zzzz....

Ham it up for the camera!
I made Buffalo chicken tenders and garlic fries for dinner last night.  Quite possibly the best Buffalo chicken I have ever eaten!
Sweet Jesus that was good!  We even had a mini salad with ranch dressing to compliment the Buffalo flavor.

"Let's go to the park!"

Skyler walked Maizey dog to the park yesterday.  It's a little scary how fast he's growing up...

Eating in Tooele.

We made a run for some precious Simplot fertilizer to Tooele yesterday.  We managed to get in a meal at Bonneville Brewery while there.  Skyler got to color on his placemat while we waited for our food.  He was nearly the perfectly behaved little man the entire time.
