Mmmm!!!!

We hosted a wonderful Thanksgiving at our place yesterday!  Someone learned that hanging out in the kitchen means lots of tasting. :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Remember to think of and thank a farmer today while you enjoy your turkey dinner!

Learnin' on the iPad.

Skyler is finally to the point that he won't throw the iPad when it won't do what he wants it to.  He got a couple of new Apps this week,  "Endless Reader" and "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving".  Of course, he always like the PBS kids App.  Here he is learning from "Clifford the big red dog".

A new big boy bed!

What should have been a simple conversion kit to convert Skyler's crib into a full size bed, turned out to be a fiasco.  It's a good thing my father has both the skills and the shop to modify and or build damn near anything and that's just what he did.  By cutting up the existing side rails, and adding the new convertible rails, Skyler now has a bed! Here's some highlights from assembly on Sunday.
Using the screwdriver just like Papa.

Using his toy drill while Papa uses his screw gun.

Carefully step over the rails...

"Look Papa, Niner helping too!"

Mix it up!!

Skyler helped to make pumpkin pie with mommy yesterday.

Almost...

Skyler spotted the Christmas trees at the grocery store yesterday.  It's now "kissmus tree" instead of "ixmus tree."  Next weekend we will purchase a tree.  I can't wait to see how he will react to a tree in the house this year!

Bacon!

Doesnt everyone eat their bacon like it's corn on the cob ?

A new puzzle.

We had to get birdseed from the local farm supply on Tuesday.  That meant passing the toy isle while there.  He spent a good 15 minutes picking out a toy.  He made a good choice, a Barney Backhoe puzzle. And because I needed to practice my puzzle assembly skills.  I've put it together with him now at least a dozen times!  :)

Hawk!

We have a Sharp Shinned Hawk that lives in the pine tree behind our house.  She usually gets a Mourning Dove or a pigeon every week.  Yesterday she hunted for over 4 hours but I never saw her catch anything or saw any remnants (feathers) of her prey.  She's about the size of a Magpie or a small chicken.  Even Skyler watched her for a while.

Whee!!

He still likes being tossed in the air despite the fact that he weighs nearly 35 pounds!  I can feel it today...

This is November?

It's been unbelievably warm here the past few days.  A year ago, it snowed on Veteran's day.  Skyler has been taking advantage of all the warm weather by playing outside and riding his trike.

(If you're wondering about today's formatting, so am I!  Blogger is by far the worst application ever created.  I had a post with a video that refused to load so now you see what's above.  I can't type at the header like normal so you see this at the bottom.  I'm tired of trying to restart or reload everything so this is it.  Sigh...)

The "ixmus" lights.

I re-arranged Skyler's room yesterday and decided to install some color changing LED lights on the plumeria.  He is so thrilled!  We kept getting called into his room all evening to see the "ixmus" lights. :)

Mmmm, McDonald's!

Yep.  I took Skyler to McDonald's for lunch yesterday.  I hadn't planned on it but we drove past and he said "Daddy, donalds!"  We had to stop.  I have this secret (not so secret) love for the place.  I think it stems from when I was 4 or 5.  My Dad would take me to McDonald's every Saturday while my Mom was working.  I would get a Happy Meal and look at the painting of airplanes they had in the restaurant.  Think what you want about the place, but Skyler and I love it!
He got a Happy Meal with apples and apple juice.  We didn't actually eat in McDonald's.  I would never get him out of the play land if we had.

"MMMMM!"

So good!  He ate his apples first, then half of the hamburger, then shared his French fries with me.  :)

Train!!!

The little town of Waco, Nebraska (population 226) has the BNSF rail line running right through the middle.  A coal train passes through around every 15 minutes.  Skyler and I absolutely loved watching them.  It might get a little old living in town though...

The "co-op" grain elevator.  It's located right along side the railroad for easy loading of rail cars.

Looking East on the main line.

Looking West.  Train coming!

Play date with Easton!

Skyler was so excited!  He kept saying "Easton coming over daddy" pretty much all day.  They both played well and got along ok.

Leaves!

Skyler learned how fun it is to jump in a pile of leaves at Grandpa's last week.

Pumpkin glasses.

Skyler wearing his pumpkin glasses in Grandma's car on the way to Great Grandpa's 88th birthday party a couple of weeks ago.
Note the dust from the car on the gravel road.  :)

Walking with Grandma.

From our trip 2 weeks ago, Skyler and Grandma walking the gravel roads and alfalfa field.
I stole these pics from Altair's phone as I was working on a combine while they walked.
The alfalfa was ready to cut.  4th crop hay!  It all goes in those 2 blue silos in the background.  Each silo is 80 feet tall and 25 feet in diameter.

Somewhere in Nebraska...

We stopped at a rest stop along I-80 2 weeks ago and Skyler got to see and feed a bunch of horses.
At first, the horses were eating what was left of their hay bales on the ground.

One came over to see if Skyler had anything to eat.

Still eating crappy hay bales...

Skyler figured out that he could feed the horses the mowed brome grass from the rest stop!

Look what happened!

Lots of happy horses came over to eat!
