"Dem bones".

Maizey got the rib bone from our steaks on Father's Day.

The old gray dog ain't what she used to be.  :(

Looking back.

Skyler has grown rather interested in the blog lately.  He's even been searching for things that he remembers in the past.

Reading last year's post about the "Great Saltair".

2021 Summer Solstice.

We made it out to the lake last Sunday.  It was lovely.

Skyler came prepared this year.

The longest day of the year.

Train chase!

I got a tip from a friend that the Rocky Mountaneer cars were in town last Wednesday.  We drove up to the Roper yard and they were parked under an overpass.  Some little boy decided that he wanted to see them go by at speed in Sandy.  We didn't make it.  Despite driving nearly 80mph on the freeway, the train beat us to our usual spot.  Oh well, it was kinda fun.

On the bridge above the train yard.  We couldn't get a good look at the cars from where we were.  Here is the locomotive.
Rats!  Looking though my dirty windshield at the cars going by.  They were really screaming, probably close to 70mph!

The milkweed beetle.

You know it's summertime when the milkweed beetles make their appearance.

It was happily munching away yesterday before the rain hit.

RAIN!!!!!

As I type this, it's finally raining!  It's been at least a month since our last measurable precipitation.  I'd be fine if it would rain like this for a week.

Bird!

Spotted on our nearly 4 mile long walk Saturday morning.  It was hot!

Cormorant with its wings spread.  It too was trying to stay cool.

New tractor!

Not mine this time!  My friend Ken has been in a desperate need of a larger tractor for quite some time.  The stars aligned just right in the last few weeks and he found a gem, 1980 John Deere 4240 that has spent more time in the shed sleeping than it did working at the dairy it came from.  2,900 hours is all!  Skyler got to take a quick ride in it with Ken on the way to parking it in his shed.

It needs a bath, but it's got to be the cleanest and most original 4240 out there.  Can you see Skyler in the cab?

Juneteenth dinner.

Now in our second year of celebrating Juneteenth, I made a BBQ chicken dinner with awesome sauce beans, and fresh corn on the cob Saturday evening.  Mommy made a killer no bake cheesecake with homemade cherry topping made from cherries we picked along the canal.

The corn was unbelievably good considering it came from the grocery store.

Cheesecake.  Not pictured, the cherry topping.  Yum!

Happy Father's Day.

I ran across this article the other day.

I'm pretty lucky to live so close to my Dad.  Skyler is too.

(Edit; I heard this on the radio in the afternoon and had to share.)

"Can I keep it?"

Crawfish!  Spotted on our visit to see Ken's new tractor at his farm yesterday.

One of 6 that he rescued from a drying irrigation ditch.  This one was the biggest.

Cow!

Spotted on our walk first thing this morning.

One of them almost let Skyler touch it.

Good grief!

The OBSESSION with flying has reached a whole new level!

He was convinced this would work and he could actually fly around the yard!!  Duct tape arm straps with a flat piece of cardboard.  Sigh...

Fly!

He still has planes on the brain as of late.  Here he is last week flying his new (to him) "White Wings" paper planes from 1986 at the park.

The engineered design flies so much better!

He could do this all day.  I had enough after about an hour.

Train chase!

The Amtrak train #5 was running 11+ hours late Monday.  We took advantage of this and got to see it twice by driving from Sandy to downtown as it made its way through town.

Flashing yellow signal.  What's that in the sky?!

Two C-130 planes!
Here is the late California Zephyr.

Orange street.  Highball green signal.

Delighted railfan.  The track he is standing on is abandoned and out of service.

Technical difficulties.

Not sure if it's my computer or stupid Blogger, but I'm not able to upload any photos again!

Memory Grove Park.

I'd never been here before and it had been a long time since Mommy had been.

The pond towards the top.  Can you spot Skyler?

One of many memorial sites in Memory Grove.

Don't sneeze!

My allergies have been terrible the last few days, this is one reason why.

Pinyon pine pollen!

Patio fire in the rain!

Skyler really wanted to have a camp fire when we were at Kodachrome.  I didn't want to light the desert on fire so we waited until we got home that Sunday afternoon.

A brief rain storm rolled in as we were enjoying the fire.

Some final campground pics.

Bridge with the albatross parked in camp.

North view.

Stream in camp that ran under the little bridge.

Full service!

View from the top of camp looking South.

Water tank in the background and tiny pond that fed the stream that ran through the camp.
