Swim kids triathlon.

Saturday afternoon, in the 100+ degree temps, we headed to Swim Kids where Skyler takes swim lessons.  This time, he participated in a triathlon!  Swim, bike, run!  There was even a fire truck!
Bike station.

Setting up where the run will take place.

Ready to go and trying to stay cool.

Maybe it's cooler under this hot tree?

"C'mon Grandpa!"

Waiting his turn to swim.

After lots of coaxing, he finally was in the pool.

Floating in 11 feet of water!!

Bike time, probably the slowest bike ride he's ever ridden.

The heat was brutal!  Probably why he didn't want to go any faster.

His custom Strider bike.

Getting a pep talk from Mommy to go on the run.

They're off!

At least it was on grass.

Rounding the far end.

Finished!
Water slide time.
This was fun!

Army crawling.  He wasn't the only kid doing so.  Interesting...

We could have saved $25 and 3 hours and just stayed home and played with Grandma's umbrella!
Group shot.  He's doing the thumbs up.

Fire hose!

This truck was putting out even more heat!  So hot!

Having issues with the water being too hot.  The firefighter on the right said the water was "boiling."

This guy was the coolest kid there.  He brought his $5000.00 carbon Felt road bike with disk brakes to the kids triathlon!  I bet he could have beat all those kids on that fancy bike.

Grandpa and Mommy got soaked from the now cool fire hose water.

Everyone just kept stepping back.

Whew!

Checking on the engine temp.  It smelled hot!

All done.

Our little triathlete.  He was pretty excited to see the fire truck up close.

Sick!

I was going to share the weekend's events here, but I now have whatever Skyler had the last couple of weeks.  Now I'm too tired and achy to tell you about Skyler's triathlon and a visit to Cascade Springs. Maybe tomorrow....  BTW, how can a person get sick in SUMMER!!??
A night of chills, shivering and being hot has made me exhausted!  No sleep doesn't help either.

Hot dog heaven.

There used to be a brand of hot dogs and sausages called "Hi-Grade" here in Utah.  They shut down a few years ago and it made me sad.  Great news!  They're back!  Same recipe as before, and still very delicious!  We headed to Main Street Quality Meats to pick up some of their original weiners Friday.  I made homemade hot dog buns yesterday afternoon and grilled up the weiners and we had us a lunch.  Sadly, they aren't making the white brats just yet.  The butcher said that the new owner has all the original recipes and we might get lucky!  Stay tuned.
The weiners are extra long!  Fits my hand just right.  :)

International symbols defined.

Ever wanted to know what those warning lights meant on the dash of your car?  Here's your secret decoder!

Brushing his teeth.

Using the "Disney Magic Timer" on the iPad.  It's a great concept.  However, after he's done he pretty much refuses to let go of the iPad and wants to play other "Apps".
It counts down from 2 minutes as the brush on the screen slowly exposes a picture.  This picture was from "Planes."  :)

Biking, swimming, and eating.

He rode his bike to G&G's, swam in the kiddie pool at our house, and enjoyed some delicious BBQ chicken  on the patio yesterday.  Whew!

He even wore his tiny Camelback hydration pack!

Enjoying some cool water in the pool.  I got in too.  And then again around 5:45 we got in.  Mommy too!

BBQ chicken with baked beans and veggies.

350 million dollars!

That was the value of the 10 AH-64E Apache helicopters that flew over yesterday.  Skyler and I were outside and got to see and hear them.  He (of course) wanted to drive out to the airport to see them again.  We didn't do that.
Here they come in (a sort of) formation!

I figure they must be coming back from deployment somewhere.  Probably were transported in C-17's and flown down here from Hill Air Force Base.

Pretty cool!

An evening at the lake.

Saturday night we headed out to the Great Salt Lake to watch the Summer Solstice sunset.  Skyler called the lake "the ocean" and if one didn't know any better, it could almost pass as the ocean.
Walking the beach.

Kennecott's massive 1450 foot tall smoke stack.

Auntie Karen joined us too.
Gorgeous!

Movie day.

We took Skyler to see Pixar's "Inside Out" yesterday.  It was quite possibly the best movie I've ever seen!  Certainly the best Pixar movie to date.  :)

Someone was pretty excited!

Touring the old Bingham High School grounds.

Skyler went to G&G's Wednesday (and was thrilled because now Grandma is home too) so I took the dog out to Copperton to walk around the old school grounds.  They tore the building down in 2002, but there is still remnants of the athletic field and track.  Photos of the school here.
Stairs leading up to the field.

Looking West toward the mine.  Notice they've began reclaiming some of the overburden piles.

Looking out across the field.

Old workout pieces.

Can you spot it?

Deer!  I had almost let Maizey off leash.  Good thing I didn't, she loves to chase deer!

Old base of a light pole.

Some sort of support.  These were all around the field.

No turf grass anymore.  It's still nice and flat though.  There's still cinders on the track.

Where the bleachers used to be.

Support wall behind the now crushed concrete bleachers.
