Working in the cornfield.

We stopped by to see Ken yesterday to pick up a JD model A flywheel (details to follow) and to check out his corn.  Ken was in the middle of repairing a section of pipe because the damn deer won't stop stepping on it on their way to eat his corn!  Skyler and I helped out for a little while until he got a little too hot.  It's pretty nice having Ken live so close so we can go play farm pretty much anytime we want to.  :)
He played in the dirt more than he helped.

Just a boy in the corn.

Ken's corn was looking a bit thirsty!

New bike!

Skyler got a new Fat Bike yesterday!  It has  20" wheels instead of regular 26" wheels meaning it's just the right size for him.  We started out riding in the basement, (where he was able to pedal without me holding on) and had to bring it to G&G's, then Mommy got home and she had to run along side him.  For some reason though, he can't seem to balance when we go outside, not sure what is wrong, but everyone is tired of running alongside him!
Wow!

Super excited!

"Let's go to Grandma & Grandpa's!"

Grandpa running alongside Skyler.

I suppose you just use your hands to hold your phone?

Skyler can use his feet!
Playing the "Paw Patrol to the rescue" game.

He was pretty pleased with himself.

He said he was just like "Curious George."

He's out!

While making lunch yesterday, I told Skyler to go get dressed.  After some time, I noticed he was really quiet and I went down the hall to check on him.  He was ASLEEP!!!  Passed out on the floor!
I covered him up and he slept for 45 minutes.  Just in time for lunch!

Happy 75th birthday Bugs Bunny!

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Warner Brothers debut of Bugs Bunny.  My life probably wouldn't be the same or as good without having Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes in it.  Here's the original cartoon that debuted on this day in 1940.

I'll just get it myself!

Skyler gets limited iPad time.  In his mind, it's only limited until the battery wears down!  I just walked into the house to find this:

He pushed a chair over to the counter and opened the cabinet where we hide his iPad!

Success!!

Using the flour mill.

Skyler helped grind some wheat with me yesterday to make some homemade bread.  He said the mill "sounds like a jet engine!"  Spot on kid.  :)

Helping out.

Skyler has been a real big helper this week!  He dusted the living room on Monday morning, and after Mommy got home, he helped her weed and clean up.

A (HOT) hike in Ogden.

Sunday we headed North to Ogden to hike Waterfall Canyon.  It was hot, steep, and not as good a time as it could have been.  We should have headed up earlier in the day.  Even though it was cool at our house, Ogden was much warmer!
Trailhead view.

Some sort of Government reservoir.

Looking Southwest.

Spotting a lizard.

Entering private land.

Told you!

Old water tanks.
She got so hot, she laid down in the water!

Cooling.

"Feel so good!"

Skyler in the water.

He was hot too.

Maizey moved into deeper water.

Splish splash!

Feeling a little better.

Yep.  He sat in the water too!

Wood pipe wrapped with wire.

On this day...

Today marks the 46th anniversary of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon!
This is actually Buzz Aldron, not Neil.
More info and a great photo gallery here.

Request permission to land, we're running out of fuel...

As I was out hand watering in the garden yesterday afternoon, I heard and then spotted a Virgin Atlantic 747-443.  It's pretty rare to see a 747 on final approach here in Utah so I ran inside to track it on Flightradar to see what was going on.  Due to severe thunderstorms in Las Vegas (and the airport there temporally closed), it had been circling for quite some time overhead here in Salt Lake.  They were running short on gas and had to land!  Skyler was pretty excited and wanted me to drive out to the airport.  That didn't happen.
Oh my god!!!

Hard to see, but even the engine cowls are painted red to match the tail .  Virgin doesn't fly into SLC so I've never seen the colors of their livery in person.

Dirty pass.  It looked like it was going to fall out of the sky it was moving so slow.

On final.
As if the flight from London to Vegas wasn't long enough!  It was on the ground in SLC for 3 more hours before it took off  to Vegas!

That's one BIG spider!!!

We drove out West to pick up Skyler's 4 year pictures Thursday evening.  After picking up the CD, we walked along the little trail that borders the photographer's neighborhood.  Skyler got to run and so did the dog.  Coming back up, I spotted a hole containing the biggest spider I've ever seen in Utah!
Running down the hill!

A view of one of the last remaining farm sites out on the flats.

Running the other way with Mommy.

Great view of the mountains.

Trying to keep up with the boy.  We were headed to the playground in the distance.
Oh my god!

I got him to come out by waving a piece of straw around.  He's very quick!

I wanted to remove the garbage that people had thrown around his hole but I wasn't brave enough after seeing how quick he was.

He's about as big around as a soda can.

Wheat he looked like from the trail.
I think the spider is a "Utah Tarantula."  Some more info and pictures here.
