Pitting cherries.
We found some cherries on a tree growing along the canal a few weeks ago. We headed back and picked a boatload so Mommy could make a cobbler for Father's Day. Skyler got to pit the cherries using the cherry pitter. He really liked using the cherry pitter!
The pitter kinda "auto feeds" a cherry into the plunger. He knocked these out in no time.

Baby California Scrub Jay!
After years of feeding peanuts to the Scrub Jays around here, I spotted 2 babies yesterday afternoon.
He's more gray than an adult. No pics of the other one.

Cooling in the cemetery fountain!
She did it two days in a row this week!
So far, no one from the cemetery has either noticed, or said anything!

I spotted him looking for bugs on the silverleaf maple yesterday morning.

Skyler got to pet one on our walk Sunday.
There's about a half dozen of them in this field. Even a draft horse.

Summer Solstice.
We continued our tradition of heading out to the Great Salt Lake Marina to watch the sunset Saturday. We got there a little early to explore the shipwreck that had recently washed up on shore.
Karen with Skyler.
Incredible clouds.
Skyler taking Karen to the sand bar.
Silhouettes.
We're going to have a great sunset.
The shipwreck! Rumor has it that it's from 1903 and belonged to the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Looking west toward Stansbury Island.
More of the wreck.
Clouds getting ready to part.
Seagull.
Another seagull skimming the water.
Here comes the sun!
More tomorrow...

Father's Day.
“You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.”

Cholla blooms.
Spotted walking along the canal last weekend.
See the bee?
Gorgeous! Our cholla cactus has yellow blossoms, I almost wish it had pink ones.

The lake, part 4.
Can you spot Skyler and Mommy out on the water?
Remnants of what appears to be an old sewage pipeline. Yuck.
More wooden piles.
A closer look.
Spider in the hole!
Iron rusting away.
The other two playing in the water.
Seagull and Altair.
Antelope Island in the distance.
Lone pile out in the water.
More piles.
Looking south toward the enormous Kennecott Tailings Pile.
Sewage pipe remains. It was a wooden pipe!
A capped well maybe?
Remnants of the pipe. Note the wire bands.
Some of the pipe remains.
Critter hole!
Tongue and grooved pipe staves.
Killdeer nest.
Train trestle to the right, the road to the left.
The amount of wood is staggering.
This pile was oozing rust.
Exploring.
The road came after WWII. People started driving out to the resort in cars vs. taking the train.
Mystery brick structure.
Different angle. Sandstone top.
Some information.
