Junior Ranger.

Skyler completed another Junior Ranger packet while we were at Great Basin.

The drought is very real still.  This lake was nearly empty.

Oh my god!

Skyler was fascinated by the tree borer.

Taking his ranger oath.

Look at that stained glass in the Visitor's Center!

Final pics tomorrow...

Glacier trail.

First stop, the bristlecone forest!

Wheeler Peak in the distance.

Getting closer to the bristlecones.

One that is no longer with us.

Another.

There's something strangely beautiful about the dead bristlecones.

10,600 feet!

More tomorrow.  The glacier!

More from G.B.N.P.

Absolutely epic fall light.

Probably the best Aspens we've ever seen.

Amphitheater.

Our hike.

The 10 year old explorer.
Hikibing to the bristlecone forest tomorrow...

Great Basin National Park.

We did a quick weekend getaway and headed next door to Nevada for some much needed outdoor time.

Our camping spot was a tight fit!

Friday evening stroll along Lehman creek.

Saturday morning on the drive up to our hike to see a glacier.  Skyler is looking at said glacier through the spotting scope.

The path to the amphitheater I first experienced when I was 12.  We listened to a Ranger talk in 1988.

More tomorrow.  Special thanks to Grandpa for watching the house and taking care of the cat and dog while we were gone.

Math night at school.

We attended math night at Skyler's school last night and came away rather impressed.  He sure has a great school and some great teachers.

I especially like how he drew his mask.

That time of year.

When the black and white pets become solar powered in the afternoon.

This started Monday of this week.

Peek a boo to the TRAX train.

While walking on the Parkway Sunday, Skyler ventured up the bridge to check for any trains.

The paint made the trip up a little slippery.

Pizza Saturday!

We found a new pizza crust recipe a few weeks ago and it's a keeper.  I've been making the dough a week in advance to allow for extra long fermentation for the ultimate "chew" texture.

Skyler's pizza last week. Pepperoni.

Our pizza last week.  Arugula and Genoa salami.

Some odd corn.

Spotted in a community garden last weekend along the Jordan River Parkway.

Brace roots 3 feet up the stalk.

It was over 12 feet tall!  Some had tiny ears, some had none.  Not sure what kind of corn this is.

Baby katydid.

I spotted it Sunday evening.  Not sure it will make it to adulthood since it's so late in the season.

Hard to see from the pic, but it was only about 1" long.

Salt Lake Greek Festival Souvlaki.

At home!  Due to Covid, we missed the in person Greek festival again this year.  Instead, I made some pork Souvlaki at home on the flat top grill.  Delicious!

SO good!!

He's only 10.

Skyler managed to completely disassemble his RC helicopter yesterday to replace the main rotor shaft and solder in a new LED light!!  Everything works like it should again.  Good job buddy, I'm super proud of you!

A big thanks to Grandpa for providing a replacement LED.

Peach season.

We picked over 50 pounds of peaches from the next door neighbor's tree on Friday.  Now we have to process them all.  Anyone need some peaches?

Skyler helping Mommy prep some peaches for canning.  Look how tall he is!

Labor Day weekend quilt.

The dog immediately laid down on it as Mommy was working on it.

Mommy used some old sheets and bedding to make a quilt to donate to the homeless shelter this Fall.

Babyback ribs.

Today's post is sponsored by pellet smoked homemade ribs.  That is all.

They were incredible.

Fixed it himself.

Skyler has learned how to solder from Grandpa in the past year.  This skill came in rather handy yesterday when he had to fix his drone.  Success!

So much concentration!

Ogden is awesome!

We headed up to Ogden yesterday to get a rubbing of the Weber County marker like the one we got last month while camping.  We then walked along the Ogden River Parkway and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Ogden.

View from a bridge.

Mural with the legendary Joe McQueen.

Homemade smash burgers.

They were incredible!

California style, complete with cheese, lettuce, onion, garden tomato, and homemade dill pickle.

The corn post.

We've been enjoying some fresh garden grown sweet corn for a few weeks now.  However, I failed to get any pictures of the golden goodness on our plates!  Here's some pics of some field corn that I'm growing to make corn flour and corn meal out of this fall.

Field corn seed was poached from a friend's corn field 2 years ago.

Taller than me!

Look at the brace roots!

This volunteer plant has 4 ears!
