Annual combine ride.

I got a call from Ken yesterday around noon that he was moving on the corn maze.  Skyler and I were off!  Time to combine corn!
Unloading 100 bushels of 28% moisture corn.  This is considered "high moisture" corn.  Used for cattle feed.  It gets ground and fermented.

Standing in the cab.

Looking out.

Looking out front.

Unloading into a vintage military 6x6 truck.
Someone was having a great day!

Riding in the vintage truck.
Still happy!
"C'mon, another truck to ride in!"
I had had enough corn dust so we got out.
Ready...
On the move!

Lots of smashed pumpkins.  What does a pumpkin smell like Skyler?  "Eggs!"  Hmm, not sure about that one.

Here it comes!

4 rows at a time.
"Bye Kenny!" is what Skyler was shouting.

One more pic in front of the Freightliner.  The sun was a little bright.  :)
A sincere thanks to Ken for calling me and letting us tag along.  Skyler had a wonderful time!

So long garden 2014.

I got the garden plowed yesterday while Skyler was visiting Grandpa.  It's always so bittersweet, sad, that the growing year is over, happy, that I get to plow!
My workhorse for the day, X585 with 12" plow.

All finished.  I had to plow a little different this year, East to West with a North South headland to avoid plowing under the root vegetables.

A cleanup pass on the North end to trim away some sod.  Look at that furrow wall!

Can you tell that there was a tough spot?  All 4 wheels were turning and burning!

Yay for IKEA?

I really don't care much for IKEA.  The store is way too big and time sucking.  We made a trip there yesterday.  There was a consolation prize, they had lots of wooden train track sets for Skyler's wooden train!  I bought 3.  I should have bought 10!  Anyway, he's delighted and so a I.  :)
They even had a turntable!  So much fun!

Miner's trail hike.

Since there were apocalyptic winds here yesterday, we decided to go on a hike instead of a bike ride.  We loaded up, and headed up Emigration Canyon to the trailhead. Once there, I was promptly stung by a f*ucking hornet!!!  Twice!!  After Altair found some Benadryl in the first aid kit, we were ready.  The hike was relatively low effort except for the effort of trying to wrangle Skyler and keep him with us.  Lots of great views, nice vegetation, and geology too.  The winds even knocked a tree down blocking the way out!  Fortunately, by the time we were finished, someone had moved the tree.
Taking off as I'm getting stung.

"C'mon!"

On our way.

Enjoying an apple while hiking.
Looking Southeast.
Mommy and Niner.

If you lived here, you'd be home now!

The sun found this little patch of Cottonwood trees.
My hiking partner.  Look at the colors!
Red Maple.

Looks like Wyoming.
Gully.

Yellow Scrub Oak.

Looking ominous.  And more like Wyoming.

The geology part of the trail.  There were lots of fantastic rock formations on this trail.

Tree blocking the road.  Uh oh.
Mommy looking tired of wrangling the monkey.

Maizey dog!

Evergreen goodness.
The tree that blocked the road.

Halloween wrap up.

This year was Skyler's first real Trick-or-Treating experience.  Let's just say that he loved it!  The kid shows no fear, and would thank everyone and shout "Happy Halloween" to anyone that he saw.  He has quite the stash of candy and I'm hoping to make it last a while.  A big thanks to my sister for joining us, (Skyler told me to stay home once Karen got here) my Dad for carving a pumpkin just for Skyler, Altair for making such a great costume, and my Mom for making a round Trick-or-Treating with Skyler.  Whew!  What a day!

Starting to carve a 58 pound home grown pumpkin.

Reeeaaaah waaaay down!

Get the guts out...

Climb inside!

Yep, when you grow your own giant pumpkins, why not try them on for size?

Auntie Karen and Skyler leaving the nicest lady's house!  He was quite the hit with everyone who saw him.  "Let's go to another house!"  That was the phase after each stop.

A Dremel tool with a drywall bit makes for some good carving!

His ghost costume.

Pit stop at Grandma's.  SUGAR!!!!

The pumpkin that Grandpa carved.  :)
