Golden Spike Train Club.

Saturday, Skyler, Grandpa, and I headed uptown to check out the Golden Spike Train Club's model railroad layout.  It did not disappoint!

Photos not in order...

Wow!

Athearn classic bus.  I found one on eBay but it's outrageously overpriced.

Big Boy!

The scenery left a lot to be desired.

More Big Boy.  It was pulling a 50 car train.

A model of the Roper Yard here in Salt Lake City.

Amtrak coming!

Utah Railway.  Little did we know that Grandpa would get a locomotive just like the lead engine as a gift from Karen's friend a day later!
Mesmerized.

Classic 4-8-4 pulling the U.P. Heritage fleet.

Control room.

Yard.

More of the Heritage cars.

U.P. #840 coming into the yard.

Big Boy #4024.

EMD 567 engine model.

Amtrak at speed!
We'll probably head back next month.  They have an open house the second Saturday of every month.

Full kit!

Skyler put on his "full kit" cycling clothes to go for our bike ride Saturday morning.

He got to lead on our second lap.

17th anniversary dinner.

I grilled a prime rib with bacon infused green beans (from the garden) and roasted potatoes last night.  Delicious!

Oh, it was also national s'mores day yesterday so we had s'mores (using Nutella) for dessert.

I grilled the bone separately for the dog.

The vegetables almost overshadowed the beef.
Skyler got out our wedding topper...
And then got out the family statue to go with.  Homemade candle! Flowers were from the yard and we got to use our champagne flutes from our wedding.  Cheers!

He also made us this celebratory sign and he made each of us a card.
Maizey got to chew on her beef bone.
S'mores for dessert!

Lucky seventeen.

Today is our 17th wedding anniversary.  I'm lucky to be married to such an amazing, smart, caring and beautiful woman.  I love you Altair!

Sweet corn!

Last night, we enjoyed our first sweet corn of the year from our garden.  Delicious!

Absolute perfection!

We started with 6 ears, I ended up picking another 6.  It was SO delicious!

A trip to the elementary school playground.

We took advantage of the cloud cover yesterday morning and walked North to the elementary school.  Maizey got to play in the sprinklers to stay cool, and Skyler got to play on a new (to him) playground.

We had the place to ourselves.
On TOP of the monkey bars!
Skyler in the sprinklers.
Swing!

Huli Huli chicken round two.

I made Huli Huli chicken for dinner Sunday evening.  This time with authentic Hawaiian macaroni salad.  Delicious!

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs with a pineapple glaze.  The macaroni salad almost overshadowed the delicious chicken. Almost.  :)

2019 garden.

Figured I had better take some pictures before the monsoon winds and rain knock everything over.

East view. Irrigation in full force.

Sweet corn view.  After a few years hiatus, this corn is some of the best looking we've ever grown!

Ice cream cone!

With Utah State Aggie ice cream!  Mommy took Skyler roller skating Saturday afternoon and stopped at a drive in that serves Aggie ice cream.  She brought me a cup, SO good!

Mmm!

S line trail.

Aka, Parley's trail.  We rode it on beach cruisers yesterday. What a lovely time.

Gorgeous Russian Sage along the trail.
Skyler was in the middle and Mommy at the end.
UTA has done a wonderful job landscaping this trail.  I wish all of the rail lines they have were greenways.
More lush landscaping.

Return trip.  Skyler went down earlier and was not too happy about riding back.  He skinned his knee but was mostly scared I think.

Bike ride.

Skyler and I got another ride in yesterday before it got hot.  I almost got a picture of him drinking from his water bottle and riding one handed.

Putting his bottle back after a drink.  :)

Train time.

Skyler has been asking to ride the streetcar over in Sugarhouse for a while now.  Since the weather was cooler yesterday and overcast, it seemed like the perfect day to do so.  We rode the TRAX train from the station nearest our place to Central Point station and got on the streetcar.

Waiting for the streetcar.
Legacy TRAX car with something different?
New paint!
Looks good.
On the streetcar.
Some info about the former freight line and the original rails turned into art.
We then got back on the green TRAX line and took it out to the airport. He was thrilled to have the first seat on the train so he could look out and see the operator's view.
