Yellowstone trip; day 2, part 4.

We left Canyon Village and headed towards Yellowstone Lake.  Along the way, we stopped where LOTS of others had stopped and got out to see a Grizzly Bear that had been snacking on a male Elk carcass in the river.  (No pics, too far away for the magic iPhone).  Then we were off towards the lake.

This poor old bull had what I thought was probably scabies.  His hind end was no longer functioning properly and it was a struggle to cross the road.  People were such assholes that they started honking at the Bison!!  He eventually made it across the road and when we passed, he was eating grass.  I fear that he is no longer with this earth due to his ailments.  Note the jackass that got out of the car while we creeped along.

The iron in the water reacts with the hydrogen sulfide gas and makes the grey metallic mud.

Amazing that there can be 200 degree water and 10 feet away there are flowers blooming.

They still had a working telephone booth in the hotel.

Xanterra has really done a nice job restoring the historic buildings in the park.  Just look at the art deco elevator sign!

I misspoke, the lake is only 450 deep.  The island in the center has an old shipwreck on the East shore.

No one was on the beach!

Ham it up!  I have no idea how he wasn't cold since he had removed his coat earlier.  Mommy was turning blue it was so cold!

Walking in the rain to dinner, we spotted this "floater" snow coach.
