Yellowstone trip; day3, part 1.

We got up early and had our delicious complimentary breakfast at "Trappers Family Restaurant" in town and hit the road toward Mammoth Hot Springs Tuesday of last week.

After 31,683 steps the day before, he was tired!

Roaring Mountain in the morning light.

Info.

The road to Mammoth was under some pretty severe construction.  It was dirt for quite a ways.

There's a joke in the machinery business,  every Komatsu is followed around by it's own personal service truck.  This one was no exception!  Surprise, a Komatsu is broke down!

The clouds were getting ready for our afternoon rain.

After several miles of one way dirt road, Mommy and Skyler needed a pit stop at a lone restroom right off the road.  I wandered down to this little stream to scout for moose.

Wow!

Look how clear the water was!

Sadly, no moose.  In fact, we never saw a single moose on our entire trip.  :(

Mammoth Hot springs.  Desolation city, and someone could be the mayor.

Neat contrast of death and clouds.

Looking at some hot water flows.

Lots of iron oxide to tint this section.

Reflections of clouds in the hot pools.

Hot pool "scum" floating on top.

Mad Max: Fury Road?

Lifeless former hot spring flows.

Green life in the background, death in the foreground.

Limestone.

Looking towards Mammoth.

Really neat calcium growths.

Info.

Mars like landscape.

Some green next to scalding, acidic water.

Active water flow over the top.

Green tinted pools.

The colors!

Background mountains were 8,000'.

Steamy hole.

Just like that, growth, then no growth.

Reflections.

Taking pics and taking it all in.

Day 3, part 2 tomorrow.  More of Mammoth Hot Springs to come!
